Altötting
Go for a half-day or one night: the Kapellplatz pilgrimage core is a 10-minute walk end to end, so two nights is the ceiling.
Altötting is Germany's best-known Catholic pilgrimage town, 80 km east of Munich and close to the Austrian border. Everything that matters — the Gnadenkapelle with the Black Madonna, the basilica, the treasury museum and the Jerusalem panorama — sits within a few minutes' walk of Kapellplatz. One night covers it; two lets you add Marktl, Burghausen or the Inn valley. It is a quiet, safe, low-cost stop rather than a destination in its own right.

Get around
Walk. The whole centre, from the station to the basilica and the panorama, is under 15 minutes on foot. Local buses exist but you will not need them unless you stay out at Graming.
