Alpharetta is a northern Metro Atlanta suburb of about 66,000 people, built around GA 400 exits 9, 10 and 11. It is not a sightseeing city: the draw is walkable mixed-use districts (Avalon, Halcyon, downtown Alpharetta), a big amphitheatre, and shopping. Come for one night around a concert or a weekend of eating and shopping, not for a week of landmarks.

Get around
A car is the practical default: GA 400 runs the length of the city and most hotels, malls and restaurants sit along it. MARTA bus routes 140, 185 and 143 serve the area on weekdays only, so weekends and evenings need a car, rideshare or taxi. Downtown Alpharetta and Avalon are walkable once you park.
