One night, and only if you have a car: see Glamorgan Castle and the Haines House, then move on. Without a car, skip it.
Alliance is a small Stark County city of about 22,000 people, halfway between Canton and Youngstown on US 62. Its draw is a short list of historic buildings — a 1905 castle, an Underground Railroad house, a Victorian home — plus the ten-day Carnation Festival each August. Amtrak's Capitol Limited stops here, but both directions arrive in the middle of the night, so most travellers come by car and stay one night. Two nights is the ceiling unless you are visiting family or timing a festival.

Get around
Drive. The sights are spread along State Street and Union Avenue, and there is no practical taxi pickup in town — Canton cab companies will bring you back but rarely come out to collect you. SARTA Route 139 runs between Alliance and Canton for a small fare, with hourly departures on main routes and a transfer centre in Alliance. Amtrak's Capitol Limited stops at 820 E Main St, east of the centre, with sparse facilities.
