Ali, Tibet
阿里
Use Ali as a staging post for Mount Kailash, not a destination: 1–2 nights max, then move on.
Ali (also called Gar or Shiquanhe) is the capital of Ngari prefecture in far western Tibet, built in 1965. At 4,255 m, it's higher than Lhasa and serves mostly as a logistics stop for Mount Kailash, about 330 km away. The town has few sights of its own, but the Ngari Museum and the Dark Sky Park are worth a short visit. Most travellers stay 1–2 nights before heading to Kailash or onward to Kashgar or Lhasa.
