Alcossebre
Go for 2–3 nights if you want a quiet Costa del Azahar beach base; skip if you want nightlife or a big-city sight list.
Alcossebre is a small seaside village in Castellón province, part of the inland municipality of Alcalà de Xivert, south of Peñíscola. It is a beach and nature base rather than a sightseeing city: the Sierra de Irta natural park runs along the coast to the north, and the Columbretes Islands marine reserve lies offshore. Most visitors come for the beaches, the coastal walking and a slow pace; two or three nights covers it, and a car or the local bus makes the surrounding coves and villages reachable.

Scams and watch-outs
- Burglary rings have targeted the upmarket rental neighbourhoods, especially Les Fonts and Marcolina: do not leave valuables on terraces or balconies, even briefly.
- Many restaurants and shops close for the midday break, roughly 14:00/15:00 to 16:00/17:00.
- Outside the summer season a lot of accommodation, beach bars and restaurants shut; check before booking a spring or autumn trip.
- The nearest train station is at Alcalà de Xivert, about 6 km inland: you still need a bus or taxi to reach the village.
- Beach parking fills early in high season; the free car park at Platja Romana is usually full by mid-morning.
Alcossebre is a low-crime resort and the main risks are practical: strong summer sun and currents on the beaches, and burglary targeting rental villas in Les Fonts and Marcolina. Lock up, use the safe, and do not leave anything on the terrace.
