Albania runs on a small set of apps. Google Maps is the default for navigation, but treat its rural road data as a guide rather than a promise: some mountain tracks are unmapped or shown as better than they are. Download the offline map for the region you are driving or hiking before you leave Wi-Fi, because signal drops in the Alps and on stretches of the southern coast.
For anything arranged with a person — a guesthouse, a furgon driver, a taxi — WhatsApp or Viber is how it happens. Locals use both, and a message usually gets a faster reply than a call. Save your accommodation's number before arrival so you can message from the airport.
Bus and furgon schedules are the weak point. There is no single reliable national timetable app; times are posted at the station, passed by word of mouth, or confirmed by your host. Plan to ask the day before you travel, and again on the morning. For longer intercity routes, a local timetable site such as Gjirafa may help, but confirm in person.
Ride-hailing: Uber does not operate in Albania. Local taxi apps such as Speed Taxi or Taxi Tirana are used in Tirana — check that the app is working and that the driver accepts the fare shown before you rely on it. Outside the capital, taxis are usually flagged on the street or called by your hotel.

Translation: Albanian is not in every offline pack, so download an offline language pack in Google Translate before you go. In tourist areas and among younger people, English is common; outside them it is less so. A phrasebook screen and a translation app cover the gaps.
