Alaska is bigger than most countries and has almost no roads. The state splits into five regions that do not connect by land: Southeast (ferry and cruise), Southcentral (Anchorage, road system), Interior (Fairbanks, Denali), Arctic (fly-in only) and Southwest (fly-in only). Most first trips do one or two of these in 7–10 nights. Trying to drive the whole state is not possible — Juneau, the capital, has no road to anywhere.
