Akitakata
安芸高田市
A half-day stop for castle ruins and samurai history, not a base. Pass through between Hiroshima and Miyoshi or stay one night if you want to hike the castle mountain.
Akitakata is a small city in northern Hiroshima Prefecture, best known for Yoshida-Koriyama Castle, the former stronghold of the Mōri clan. The city has one solid museum and a castle ruin with good views, but little else for the casual traveller. Most visitors come as a day trip from Hiroshima or as a stop on the way to Miyoshi.

Scams and watch-outs
