Akçakoca
Go for one night, two at most: a Black Sea beach stop between Istanbul and Amasra, not a destination worth a long detour.
Akçakoca is a small Black Sea resort town of about 28,000 people, halfway along the coast road between Istanbul and Amasra. It has narrow eroded beaches, a crumbling Genoese bastion on a clifftop, a show cave inland and a modern mosque shaped like a nomad's tent. Buses from Istanbul take 4–5 hours, so it works as a weekend or a one-night break in a longer Black Sea run, not as a day trip.

- The old town is largely gone: expect tumbledown or rebuilt houses rather than a preserved Ottoman quarter.
- Out of season many beach cafés and hotels close; check before travelling in winter.
