Aizawl is Mizoram's capital, a city built along a single ridge at about 1,130 m, so roads run sideways and footpaths beat taxis for short uphill hops. It is a base for Mizo culture, the state museum and hill day trips, not a sightseeing checklist. Two nights covers the city and Reiek; three adds a longer run toward Thenzawl or Champhai.

Get around
The city follows one ridge, so buses and taxis run roughly north–south; going up or down a slope is often faster on foot. City buses are cheap but you ask the conductor for the fare. Taxis are metered in theory only — agree the price before you get in, and expect short hops to cost far more than in mainland India. No bus runs between the airport and the city.

- Greeting: Namaste (palms together) or a handshake between men; wait for a woman to offer her hand; avoid: Hugging or kissing strangers
