Skip Airdrie as a base unless you need cheap beds north of Calgary: it is a 25–35 min drive or a commuter bus from downtown, with one small museum and no sight of its own.
Airdrie is a bedroom and industrial city of about 61,000 people on Highway 2, 30 km north of Calgary in the Calgary–Edmonton Corridor. It grew from an 1889 railway siding and holds little for a visitor beyond the Nose Creek Valley Museum, a Christmas lights festival in Nose Creek Park, and outlet shopping at CrossIron Mills just south of town. Its real use is as a cheaper, quieter place to sleep while doing Calgary and the corridor by car.

Get around
Airdrie is a car town: most sights, hotels and restaurants sit along Highway 2, Main Street and Yankee Valley Boulevard, and walking between them is slow. Airdrie Transit runs local routes on roughly 30-minute headways at peak and 60 minutes off-peak, plus commuter routes 900, 901 and 902 to Calgary. Airdrie Transit's own site lists the current local fare (about $2.25 in 2018; check 2026).
