Base in Adler for 2–3 nights if you want the sea plus Krasnaya Polyana day trips; skip it as a sightseeing stop on its own.
Adler is the southern district of Greater Sochi, 22 km from Sochi centre, built around the mouth of the Mzymta river and the 2014 Winter Olympics. It holds Sochi's airport, the main rail terminus for the coast, a long pebble beach and the resort strip of Kurortny Gorodok. Most travellers use it as a bed base for the sea and for day trips up to Krasnaya Polyana and the mountains.

- Summer weekends and July–August bring heavy traffic on the coast road; a 40-min bus ride can take 2 h.
- Many small guesthouses are seasonal and close outside May–October.
