The Upper Galilee is a forested highland of small Druze, Maronite and Jewish villages, Crusader ruins and hiking trails, with no big city and thin bus coverage off the main roads. Sleep in Safed for the old city and central position, or in Rosh Pina for guesthouses and easy road access; a car turns a two-night stay into a full region, buses do not.
