Know before you go
- Avaiki is named in Niuean oral history as one of the places the first voyagers are said to have landed; it is a place of some cultural weight, not just a swim spot.
- The cave narrows to a dark inner chamber that most visitors do not enter without a local guide and a torch; the outer pool and cave mouth are the part worth the trip.
- No facilities: nothing to buy, nowhere to change except behind the rocks.
