Built from 1889 as a shrine; the interior mixes red lacquer, carved wood, French floor tiles and painted glass panels.

Two stages of building

The temple is 1880s court style; the tomb terrace was finished under Khải Định about three decades later in concrete, so you see the change of taste in one site.

Quiet

Often empty: the calmest tomb on the circuit.

Who was Đồng Khánh?

A nephew and adopted son of Tự Đức, placed on the throne by the French in 1885 (≈ under US$1) after Hàm Nghị fled; he reigned until 1889 (≈ under US$1).
