Know before you go

The church is small: ten minutes inside is normal, and there is nowhere to sit for long.
Dress rules are the same as at any Georgian Orthodox church: covered shoulders and knees, and a head covering for women.
It is an active church, so service times can close the interior to sightseeing.
The present building is mostly a 13th-century rebuild on 6th-century foundations, restored after fires and invasions.
Entry is free; a small donation for candles is normal.
