- Fortlands and the streets around it kept more of Basseterre's Georgian-era wooden gingerbread houses than the more rebuilt town centre; many survived the fires and hurricanes that reshaped the Circus area.
- This is a lived-in neighbourhood, not an open-air museum: houses are private, occupied homes.
- Government House, the governor-general's official residence, sits on this walk; it is viewed from the road only.
