Minnesota splits into two trips. The Twin Cities (Minneapolis and St. Paul) are one walkable, transit-friendly metro with the airport, museums and food. Everything else — Duluth, the North Shore, the Boundary Waters, the southern bluff country — needs a car and adds 2–4 hours of driving each way. With under five days, stay in the Cities and day-trip. With a week or more, drive north.
